Alarming statistics are available to show that one out of every three Canadians get involved in a motor-vehicle accident during their life. This emphasizes the need for reliable information on accidents, repairs, the steps to be taken following accidents, insurance coverage etc. which would be helpful to all and is now available at a Collision Reporting Center (CRC) in your town. The initiative was launched with a view to make the police/traffic system more streamlined and efficient. It is a police facility where vehicle drivers can report minor collisions and accidents if the damage is estimated to be below $2000 and is a partnership between police departments and some reputed insurance companies.

When minor accidents happen and no one is injured, it’s not necessary for the police to come to the accident site, though they must be informed. When they are informed, they would recommend that you take your vehicle immediately to your local Collision Reporting Center if there is only property damage and no one is injured. At the CRC, the helpful staff assists drivers to complete paperwork, document and photograph the damage, apply damage stickers, assist with filing an accident report and enable contact with the appropriate insurance company.
The rules that apply to all motor-vehicle accidents remain in force at the CRC. All accidents have to be reported within 48 hours from the time of the collision. Though many people would try to arrive at a private settlement with the at-fault party if the damage is small, it’s wiser to get the entire incident documented at a CRC for any future reference or in case of dispute later.
There are nearly 30 Collision Reporting Centers in Ontario which provide a range of useful services.
